Cutting Cords: Detox and Recovery

Cutting energetic cords is sacred work—deeply personal, powerful, painful, transformative and healing. It is the soul’s way of saying, “I stop giving my energy to that which harms me. I am actively caring for myself in body, mind and spirit."

For many, what follows such meaningful and healing work is unexpected. For example, there can be waves of grief, confusion, fatigue, depression, sadness, anxiety or longing. These reactions are certainly common responses to any types of loss in a relationship, but also to a loss of patterning in one's nervous system, energetic body, and world. Even more surprising to most, are the physical symptoms that often occur which define the healing crisis, complete with withdrawal and detox. Just as in any detox, one's system must recalibrate, and this process—while healing—is not always gentle. Understanding what’s happening helps you move through it with grace, rather than fear.

The withdrawal in cord-cutting, at its deepest impact, will clear entanglements away from the energy body. These entanglements can act as nuisances of energy depletion, or be profound enough to act as parasitic, even malevolent attachments or entities.  Disentangling occurs throughout the multiple layers of our auras such as the physical, mental, emotional, etheric, spiritual and cosmic bodies. It also clears related problems in the body's energy centers (chakras).  The impact is holistically system wide. No part of us escapes the shift.

What Are Energetic Cords—and Why Do They Hurt to Cut?

Energetic cords are invisible lines of connection between two people. These bonds often form through love, sex, trauma, repeated interactions, or emotional intensity. In healthy relationships, cords can remain soft and flowing. In toxic or karmic relationships, they often become tight, restrictive, controlling, parasitic, or draining.

Toxic cords may cause:

  • Emotional dependency

  • Confusion and obsession

  • Energy loss or exhaustion

  • Intrusive thoughts or “hauntings”

  • Sacral, solar plexus, or heart chakra dysfunction

In some cases, cords function like energetic feeding tubes—where one person unconsciously or intentionally siphons energy from the other. The connection may feel magnetic, but it’s not nourishing.  And the longer it continues, the more distortions and detrimental effects will occur.

What Happens When a Toxic Cord is Cut

When a cord is cut, the constant flow of energy—no matter how toxic—abruptly ends. You are no longer energetically “plugged in” to the person at the other end. The severing brings clarity, freedom… and sometimes, discomfort.

Just like physical detox, withdrawal symptoms may occur. This is your energy field purging old imprints, healing the tears, and rebalancing itself without the tether that once defined your emotional and spiritual state.

Symptoms of Energetic Withdrawal

Below is a list of common energetic withdrawal symptoms:

Emotional + Energetic Signs:

  • Waves of grief, guilt, or sadness

  • A “phantom cord” sensation where the connection once existed

  • Longing, reviewing, intrusive or obsessive thinking

  • Vivid dreams or nightmares about the person

  • Feeling energetically raw, exposed, or disoriented

  • Sense of emptiness or loss—even if the connection was harmful

Physical Signs:

  • Headaches or dizziness

  • Fatigue, body heaviness

  • Digestive upset (linked to solar plexus/sacral release)

  • Chills, hot flashes, or aching in joints

  • Sleep disruption or oversleeping

  • Crying, sighing, or yawning (natural release mechanisms)

Spiritual Signs:

  • Temporary disconnection from intuition

  • Sudden silence from guides

  • Emotional flooding during meditation

  • Sensitivity to noise, light, or people

  • Aura fragmentation or difficulty feeling “yourself”

Chakra Reactions to Cord Cutting

Each cord affects specific chakras depending on the bond:

  • Heart chakra: Releases grief, abandonment, or heartbreak. May feel hollow, fearful, or tight.

  • Sacral chakra: Detoxes emotional attachment and sexual imprinting. May cause lower belly sensitivity or creative block.

  • Solar plexus: Reclaims power and identity. May feel like weakness or nausea before strength returns.

  • Throat and third eye: May recalibrate as you re-learn to trust your voice and intuition outside of the other person’s influence.

Self-Care for Detox and Recovery

This is not just an awareness shift, or intellectual process to reframe one's experiences. Our bodies hold and tell the story. You must support yourself physically while your energy body reweaves itself.

Hydration

Flush your system with water. Drink more than usual.  Add lemon, cucumber, or mint to boost the cleanse. Satisfy every feeling of thirst.

Nutrition

Favor grounding, earthy foods such as sweet potatoes, oats, lentils, bone broth, beets. Avoid sugar, alcohol, or caffeine as they heighten emotional spikes. Eat as much green foods and fruit as you want. Eat well and frequently, every 2-3 hours.

Rest

Healing takes energy. Prioritize deep, nourishing rest. Say no to social obligations. Let yourself be still. Replace internet scrolling or 'entertainment' with sound therapy frequencies, instrumental, meditative sound/music, nature sounds such as water flow, rain.

Movement

Light, flowing movement (walking, stretching, yoga, dancing) helps stagnant energy shift.

Nature

Spend time near trees, soil, or running water. Nature grounds you and composts emotional debris.

Breath

Breathwork after cord cutting helps calm the nervous system and clear residual energy. Inhale slowly through the nose, imagining light filling your body; exhale through the mouth, releasing any lingering tension or emotional residue. Let each breath gently re-anchor you into your own energy field.

Bathing

Bathing cleanses the aura and soothes the body. Use warm water infused with rosemary, or lavender, and as you soak, visualize the water drawing out anything that no longer belongs to you—leaving you calm, sealed, and whole. See unwanted residue going down the drain, not to return when you finish.

Use Salt

Salt is one of the most potent and ancient tools for energetic cleansing. In a bath or as a body scrub, it helps draw out stagnant or foreign energies, sealing and fortifying the aura after release work like cord cutting. As you massage or soak, visualize the salt extracting what doesn’t belong and returning your body to clarity and balance. See it fortifying the energy body and its appropriate boundaries and functioning, free of interference.

Affirmations for Recovery

Speak these aloud or write them in your journal each day:

  • “I am safe and steady in my own energy.”

  • “I radiate clarity, peace, and sovereign presence.”

  • “I am connected to relationships that reflect my worth and truth.”

  • “My energy field is whole, vibrant, and free.”

  • “I trust my healing path and welcome peace into all parts of my being.”

  • “I choose love that uplifts me and boundaries that protect me.”

Healing Ritual: Cord-Cutting Integration Ceremony

This ritual supports integration of a cord-cutting and helps release lingering energy. Use as often as you'd like.

You’ll Need:

  • 1 white candle

  • Bowl of salt water

  • Black tourmaline or obsidian

  • Pen + paper

  • Herbal smoke (optional: rosemary, mugwort, or lavender)

Steps:

  1. Create Sacred Space: Light the candle. Cleanse the air with herbal smoke or simply breathe deeply and declare the space sacred.

  2. Write It Down: On paper, write what you’re releasing—not just the person, but the patterns: fear, dependency, illusion.

  3. Dissolve the Energy: Tear or burn the paper, letting the ashes fall into the salt water. Say:

“I release this from my field. I restore my spirit with grace.”

  4. Seal Your Field: Hold the crystal to your solar plexus. Visualize golden light filling every part of your body. Say:

“My energy is sovereign. My path is clear. I am free.”

  5. Close With Silence: Sit for several minutes and let the ritual settle in. Drink water. Rest.

More Recovery Methods

Additional methods for healing and re-patterning your field after cord release:

1. Release + Reclaim

Journal Prompt: What part of me did I lose in that bond? What am I ready to bring home?
Affirmation: “I move forward with peace in my heart and power in my hands.”
Practice: Take a salt bath or shower and visualize the past rinsing off your body

2. Cleanse + Ground

Journal Prompt: What am I learning about my own energy today? Where do I feel clearer?
Affirmation: “I am grounded, present, and deeply connected to myself.”
Practice: Walk barefoot, touch soil, or spend 10 minutes in silence

3. Integrate + Expand

Journal Prompt: What do I now have space for? What kind of energy do I invite into my life?
Affirmation: “I am aligned with truth, love, and sacred reciprocity.”
Practice: Light a new candle and envision your aura glowing with healthy, golden light. Speak aloud your vision for your future self—free, centered, joyful.

A Final Thought:

You Are Not Empty—You Are Becoming Whole

It is common to feel lost after cutting cords, especially from intense or toxic relationships. But this isn’t emptiness—it’s clarity and freedom. They may feel quiet, flat or lonely at first, but they make room for all of you to return.

Let the detox come, the field repair, the emptiness fill.
You're healing, and soon the ache will fade. New patterns will establish, and what comes from this process will be you—stronger, healthier and happier, sovereign and enlivened.

On Being Dispirited: When Light has Lessened

This post explores the state of being dispirited--not just as a psychological experience, but as a holistic malady—an energetic condition that affects the entire system. Being dispirited is more than a blue mood, or a descriptor of low motivation or temporary sadness. There is a deeper meaning that reveals something more profound: the literal dimming or withdrawal of spiritual light... a metaphysical experience that reflects a deeper energetic and spiritual disruption.

To be dispirited is to experience a loss of spiritual vitality, a dimming of the inner flame that drives purpose, joy, and connection. It is more than fatigue or sadness; it is a state of disconnection from your core self and from the divine source that fuels life.

In the metaphysical body, this often presents as a dullness or collapse in the aura, a contraction of light, or even a sense of emptiness. The person may feel as if they are “going through the motions” without meaning or direction, like a vessel with no wind to guide it.

How Dispiritedness Shows Up in the Energy Body

Energetically, being dispirited commonly affects:

  • The Heart Chakra: causing emotional numbness, loneliness, or grief

  • The Solar Plexus: diminishing confidence and personal power

  • The Crown Chakra: severing the feeling of connection to Source

  • The Root Chakra: undermining feelings of security and grounding

It is not unusual for the entire energy system to become sluggish, dim, or incoherent. The aura may contract, become porous, or take on a grayish tone. There may be a sense of spiritual “quiet”—as if the inner voice or divine spark has gone silent.

Why Light Retreats

Dispiritedness can arise from a number of sources:

  • Prolonged stress or emotional discouragement

  • Spiritual betrayal or crisis of faith

  • Grief, trauma, or complex/compounded loss

  • Feeling disconnected from purpose or community

  • Exposure to dense collective energies or empathic overload

  • Environmental disquiet, disharmony, toxicity or chaos

Dispirited ≠ Depression (But They May Overlap)

While being dispirited shares some traits with clinical depression, it is not purely a mental health issue—it is a spiritual and energetic one. Depression may involve chemical imbalance, dispiritedness often stems from soul-level depletion, spiritual wounding, or disconnection from one's life force.

Of course, the two can co-exist. But healing dispiritedness requires a different kind of tending—one that honors the unseen world of energy, meaning, and soul.

A Holistic Healing Approach

To begin healing, we must offer the soul an invitation—not a demand—to return to vigor and wholeness. Since the spirit often withdraws when no longer feeling safe, seen, or nourished, any coaxing should be gentle.  Rather than pushing ourselves to “snap out of it,” we must create conditions of inner warmth, reverence, and safety.

Helpful practices include:

  • Reiki focused on the heart and crown chakras

  • Gentle chakra clearing and breathwork

  • Visualization journeys that welcome the spirit back home to wholeness

  • Sound healing with heart-resonant frequencies

  • Nature immersion (especially water, trees, and open sky)

  • Quiet ritual or sacred rest

And most importantly: patience. The soul returns when it feels honored, not hurried.

Affirmations for a Dispirited Soul

  • My spirit is welcome here.
  • I am creating space for healing and remembrance.
  • Even depleted, I am sacred.
  • I trust in the gentle rekindling of my fire.
  • I honor the parts of me that needed to go quiet.
  • I am patient with the rhythm of my soul’s return.
  • My energy body is restoring itself with grace.
  • I am safe to feel joy again.
  • My light has never left me—it only dimmed to protect itself.
  • I open my heart to warmth, color, and meaning.
  • I receive divine presence, even when I feel far away from it.
  • It is safe for my soul to be fully present in my body.
  • I invite wonder, ease, and spiritual breath into my day.
  • I am becoming whole by remembering who I’ve always been.
  • I am rooted in softness, guided by the quiet flame within.
  • Every breath I take nourishes my returning vitality.
  • I welcome peace into the chambers where sorrow once lived.
  • I am not broken—I am reweaving myself with light.
  • I forgive myself for needing to retreat.
  • My aura expands gently as I reconnect with Source.
  • I trust the process of becoming luminous again.

A Return to the Sacred Self

Being dispirited is not a failure or weakness. It is a message—one that says the soul needs tending, rest, and reconnection. When we stop seeing dispiritedness as simply a bad mood and start recognizing it as a sacred alert from the energetic body, we begin to treat ourselves with the grace and reverence that true healing requires.

The light may dim, but it never disappears. It waits—quietly, patiently—for us to remember the way back to ourselves.

Techniques to Increase Light

The Light-Calling Breath (Energetic Re-Inflation)--This gentle breathwork practice invites life force energy back into the body in an easily absorbed and enlivening manner. This breath can be done daily, especially in the morning, to reawaken the energetic body slowly and compassionately.

  • Sit or lie down comfortably in a quiet space.

  • Place one hand on your heart, the other on your belly.

  • As you inhale through the nose, imagine breathing in golden-white light.

  • Hold for a few seconds at peak inhalation and proclaim silently: “I welcome my light.”

  • Exhale gently through the mouth and release any doubt, or stagnation.

  • Repeat this cycle for 5–10 minutes, visualizing your body refilling with brightness and ease.

Aura Brushing and Affirmation Anchoring--This practice helps clear stagnant or contracted energy while resetting the auric field.
  • Stand or sit and take a few deep breaths.

  • Using your hands, gently “brush” the air around your body from top to bottom—down the front, sides, and back. Imagine you are sweeping away fog or dust.

  • Then, close your eyes and place your hands on your heart. Speak a chosen affirmation aloud, such as: I am a vessel filling with my full light or My spirit is whole, and it is safe to shine.

  • Repeat the affirmation slowly three times, letting the vibration settle into your field.

Ritual for Spirit Return: A Light-Welcoming Offering

This simple ritual can be done at dusk or dawn—liminal times that mirror the transition from dark to light. It can be repeated weekly or whenever you feel disconnected from your inner spark.

You will need:

  • A small white candle

  • A bowl of clean water

Steps:

  1. Create a quiet space where you will not be disturbed.

  2. Place the water and candle before you.

  3. Light the candle, and place it near the water to see the light reflecting in the water.

  4. Dip your fingers into the water which now is enlivened with candlelight and anoint your brow and heart areas. Anoint any other places on the body you're drawn to.

  5. Sit in stillness for a few moments. Let any feeling rise and pass without judgment.

  6. When finished, pour the water into each palm and finally, rub your hands together, snuff the candle and express gratitude.

A Prayer for the Dispirited Soul

Divine Source of Light and Breath,
When the flame within me grows weak,
When joy feels far away and meaning dissipates,
Hold me in your radiance.

I call back the light of my spirit scattered by sorrow.
I call back the presence of wonder, and of quiet grace.
Even in my twilight of spirit,  I am a child of the Great Light.
Let your current move through me,
Restore my breath and rhythm,
Rekindle my heart,
Reunite me with the sacredness of being alive.

Make my spirit rise in illumination again.

Remote Reiki: An Overview

Note: Reiki symbols are respectfully approximated in this post.

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice rooted in the belief that a universal life force flows through all living things. When that energy is low or blocked, we may feel fatigued, anxious, disconnected, or even physically ill. When it flows freely, we experience greater vitality, inner peace, and alignment with our true nature.

Traditionally, Reiki is administered through light touch or gentle hovering of hands above the body. Remote Reiki, also called distance Reiki, applies the same principles—but without physical proximity. The practitioner connects with the recipient energetically, using a combination of sacred symbols, visualization, and focused intention to channel healing across space and time.

In Reiki, time and space are not considered barriers to energy. The idea that healing can transcend physical presence may sound mystical—but it’s not unlike prayer, telepathic connection, or the intuitive bond many of us feel with loved ones far away. Distance healing is simply a practiced and intentional form of that connection. Energy follows attention and intention—and those are not limited by geography.

More On Distance

Reiki and quantum theory may seem worlds apart—one rooted in ancient spiritual practice, the other in modern physics—but intriguing parallels exist between them. At the heart of both lies the idea that unseen forces govern the flow of energy and connection in the universe.

Reiki practitioners believe that energy can be channeled through intention and focused presence to bring about healing, often across time and space. Quantum physics, particularly the phenomenon of quantum entanglement, supports the notion that particles once linked remain connected no matter the physical distance between them—an idea that mirrors how Reiki energy is believed to reach a recipient remotely through focused intention.

Additionally, the quantum concept of wave-particle duality suggests that the very act of observation can affect the outcome of an event—a notion echoed in Reiki, where the consciousness and presence of the healer play a vital role in the energetic outcome of the session.

While Reiki certainly doesn't require scientific validation to be effective for its practitioners and recipients, the frameworks of quantum physics offer a compelling metaphor and bridge for understanding how energetic healing might operate beyond the constraints of classical physical laws.

How Does It Work?

Remote Reiki uses sacred symbols and visualization to connect with the recipient’s energy field. Practitioners trained in Level II Reiki are attuned to send healing across time and space using a specific distance healing symbol. (Symbols are only approximated in this post).

Sessions are most effective when coordinated in advance. Both practitioner and client should agree on a set time. The recipient should be in a calm, quiet place, ideally lying down, lights low, phone off. You don’t have to meditate—just rest. Some people fall asleep, others feel waves of sensation. Either is perfect.

Sessions typically last 20-60 minutes. The energy flows where it is needed, gently clearing blocks and restoring balance.

What Does It Feel Like?

Most people report:
  • Deep calm or relaxation
  • Tingling, warmth, or pulsing sensations
  • Emotional release or peaceful tears
  • Vivid imagery or dreamlike states
  • A sense of being “held” or comforted
  • You may feel shifts immediately—or gently over hours and days to come.

Why It Helps

Remote Reiki supports deep healing, especially when you:
  • Feel energetically drained or emotionally stuck
  • Can’t physically attend in-person sessions
  • Are going through stress, illness, or spiritual growth
  • Need gentle clearing and recalibration
It’s known to balance chakras, calm the nervous system, support sleep, and clear emotional residue without having to relive trauma.

After the Session

  • Rest. Let the healing continue to unfold.
  • Drink water. Flush and ground the body.
  • Journal or reflect. Notice emotional shifts or intuitive insights.
  • Be gentle with yourself. Subtle shifts can be just as powerful as dramatic ones.
Please get in touch with me via the contact form if  you are interested in a remote session.
