Note: Reiki symbols are respectfully approximated in this post.
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice rooted in the belief that a universal life force flows through all living things. When that energy is low or blocked, we may feel fatigued, anxious, disconnected, or even physically ill. When it flows freely, we experience greater vitality, inner peace, and alignment with our true nature.
Traditionally, Reiki is administered through light touch or gentle hovering of hands above the body. Remote Reiki, also called distance Reiki, applies the same principles—but without physical proximity. The practitioner connects with the recipient energetically, using a combination of sacred symbols, visualization, and focused intention to channel healing across space and time.
In Reiki, time and space are not considered barriers to energy. The idea that healing can transcend physical presence may sound mystical—but it’s not unlike prayer, telepathic connection, or the intuitive bond many of us feel with loved ones far away. Distance healing is simply a practiced and intentional form of that connection. Energy follows attention and intention—and those are not limited by geography.
More On Distance
Reiki and quantum theory may seem worlds apart—one rooted in ancient spiritual practice, the other in modern physics—but intriguing parallels exist between them. At the heart of both lies the idea that unseen forces govern the flow of energy and connection in the universe.
Reiki practitioners believe that energy can be channeled through intention and focused presence to bring about healing, often across time and space. Quantum physics, particularly the phenomenon of quantum entanglement, supports the notion that particles once linked remain connected no matter the physical distance between them—an idea that mirrors how Reiki energy is believed to reach a recipient remotely through focused intention.
Additionally, the quantum concept of wave-particle duality suggests that the very act of observation can affect the outcome of an event—a notion echoed in Reiki, where the consciousness and presence of the healer play a vital role in the energetic outcome of the session.
While Reiki certainly doesn't require scientific validation to be effective for its practitioners and recipients, the frameworks of quantum physics offer a compelling metaphor and bridge for understanding how energetic healing might operate beyond the constraints of classical physical laws.
How Does It Work?
Remote Reiki uses sacred symbols and visualization to connect with the recipient’s energy field. Practitioners trained in Level II Reiki are attuned to send healing across time and space using a specific distance healing symbol. (Symbols are only approximated in this post).Sessions are most effective when coordinated in advance. Both practitioner and client should agree on a set time. The recipient should be in a calm, quiet place, ideally lying down, lights low, phone off. You don’t have to meditate—just rest. Some people fall asleep, others feel waves of sensation. Either is perfect.
Sessions typically last 20-60 minutes. The energy flows where it is needed, gently clearing blocks and restoring balance.
What Does It Feel Like?
Most people report:- Deep calm or relaxation
- Tingling, warmth, or pulsing sensations
- Emotional release or peaceful tears
- Vivid imagery or dreamlike states
- A sense of being “held” or comforted
- You may feel shifts immediately—or gently over hours and days to come.
Why It Helps
Remote Reiki supports deep healing, especially when you:- Feel energetically drained or emotionally stuck
- Can’t physically attend in-person sessions
- Are going through stress, illness, or spiritual growth
- Need gentle clearing and recalibration
After the Session
- Rest. Let the healing continue to unfold.
- Drink water. Flush and ground the body.
- Journal or reflect. Notice emotional shifts or intuitive insights.
- Be gentle with yourself. Subtle shifts can be just as powerful as dramatic ones.
